The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases. It does so by funding worldwide research; by providing comprehensive health care services and support to MDA families nationwide; and by rallying communities to fight back through advocacy, fundraising and local engagement.

MDA’s network of care centers includes Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. These care centers offer services that include diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitative care, physical, and occupational services.

• As a part of its worldwide research program, MDA supports more than 250 projects worldwide and has 67 clinical trials in progress.

• MDA maintains some 200 care centers, including more than 40 MDA/ALS centers across the country

• Almost all funding comes from voluntary private donations raised throughout the year. The Association seeks no governmental funding, United Way funds or fees from those it serves. MDA is consistently rated one of the most efficient of national voluntary health agencies. 77% of every dollar MDA spends goes directly to research, health care services and education.
